Nevermore StealthMax V2 Hardware Kit

The kit is well put together and has all the parts soldered and ready for use which made it a lot easiest for me because I have a disability as I don't have fine motor controls with my left hand. During assembly, some of the pins popped out of the connected and Central 3D printing was able to send me a new cable without any hassle. I assembled this for an SV08 Max and it has been working well thus far with a couple days of printing so far. My only recommendation would be that the documentation is a bit incomplete and you'll need to reference the CAD to put it together.

C3DP did an excellent job assembling this kit. The issues I had with assembly were all because of the alpha state of the overall documentation. The electronics portion was extremely smooth and worked on the first try! The only change I would make is to secure the USB signal DuPont connector with some electrical tape, I separated it while fishing the CAN umbilical through the fan chamber.

You will definitely need the Stealthmax v2 CAD to figure out where all the pieces and parts go and how to hang it on your back panel.

Overall, I'm very happy with the kit and how my build turned out.

Building StealthMax V2 was a bag full of mixed feelings. I originally wanted to just self-source the parts because I felt like I could get them for about $30 cheaper but decided to go with the kit so I don't have to crimp any connectors and deal with wires. I didn't end up using the CPAP option and aimed for the simple back-mounted style.

The build experience really has to be separated into two categories: 1. How do I like the kit and provided parts; and 2. How do I like the project, documentation, and instructions.

So the first part is actually quite simple to answer, the kit is good, it arrived complete, and I haven't hit any issues. The kit-relevant manual was enough to get me going for the most part, so really not much to complain about.

The second part is the actual build experience. As of this moment, expect no manual, no instructions, and just a bunch of STL to pick from. While the parts repository seems to be "stable", the project documentation is in the state before "alpha".

So now having gone through all this, I can share a few gotchas I wish I knew before starting: StealthMax V2 is just an iteration of V1, which means you're better off following the V1 documentation (which is not excellent but at least present). The manual linked here from Central 3D only replaces ONE section of the build - and it's NOT the first one. You should have all printouts ready, heat inserts in place, supports removed, and become familiar with the steps before and after.

I have not brought the filter to life yet as I need to figure out a couple more things before in the el. bay and my current umbilical and new top-hat… but from what I saw, the instructions are (again) clear as mud and it's not going to be fun. TBH I am lukewarm on the "smart" aspect of this build so as long as the fan spins, I am good and the rest is a bonus.

I read Elliot's review below (3/5) and I definitely emphasize with many points there but I'd like to point out that C3D is not the product maker, only the kit provider, so while the critique is valid, it should be pointed at Nevermore.

As for a final yay/nay verdict, I'd say it depends. This is definitely not a trivial project but still very well doable. I took dozens of pictures while building, and I plan to publish my journey on https://www.mm404.com/3d/ so others can have it easier.

Great kit for the stealthmax that is complete and has everything to get it assembled. I had a bad umbilical and a replacement was sent insanely quickly. I highly recommend the kit for anyone looking to build this air filter from a customer service standpoint alone but also because they have the cleanest documentation on the project for assembly out there. Get at it!

Overall this kit is complete and satisfies the functional aspect, I was able to build a nevermore stealthmax v2 with the parts provided. However the lack of BoM, complete step-by-step assembly guide, printed parts guide, or errata capturing things changed in the kit compared to the BoM provided by either Nevermore or Central3dprinting makes this kit not beginner friendly.

The wiring guide was useful, except for the mismatch in microcontroller (my kit came with a waveshare rp2040 mini, which has a different pinout). I did not enjoy having to twist bare wires together and jamming them into a wagon, that felt fraught and frankly something that'd be ok in a DIY situation but I would have enjoyed having wiring ferrules on these bare wires considering this is a kit.

Speaking of which, the electronics chamber of this project is just a rats nest of wires, this is not so much the fault of the kit, rather that of the designer, but given that most of the connections are "homeruns" to the microcontroller a custom pcb would have been a welcome "feature" of the kit.

Which brings me to would I recommend this kit? Maybe, leaning towards no. Like (I suspect many customers considering this kit) I have a collection of leftover hardware from my voron build and probably source most of the hardware from that collection (and only have to order the fan, microcontroller, sensors, servo and acrylic panel). However much of the provided hardware is pretty nice (the umbilical is well built, though I am not a fan of my printer having a "rats tail" that is potentially prone to snagging, but that's again an issue more with the design, rather than the kit). If Central3dPrinting provided more documentation(+updated documentation) on assembly and what to print i think this would be a maybe. Add simplified/improved wiring with non-terminated stranded wires and a pcb for the electronics bay and this would be a recommended kit.
